SMILO, PIM Initiative and the Conservatoire du littoral renew their engagement in 2019 to the celebration of small islands worldwide during the 6th edition of CELEBRATE ISLANDS.
From May 20 to 26, 2019, a bright range of actors involved in the protection of islands will mobilise to promote the richness and the need for protection of these unique territories.
For this sixth edition, CELEBRATE ISLANDS wishes to highlight the History of Islands, in order to imagine an ideal sustainable management for the future. This edition will be guided by the concepts of past, present and future.
To honour the past, islands are invited to create events to take a glimpse back to the natural and human evolution of their territory.
To promote the present and their current land management, islands will organise concrete short-term actions: excursions in the nature, conferences, exhibitions, technical workshops, waste collection, awareness campaigns and natural areas inventories.
To imagine the future together, this year’s edition organises a competition for children. The goal of the contest is for the children to imagine “the Island of the Future” and to create their ideal island.
Join this growing global celebration! Every action matters. There’s no such thing as an “insignificant”, “too small” contribution for small islands!
Send us information about your events: we will share them to enhance their international visibility.
